ABOUT THE SIT TESOL CERTIFICATE COURSE

TESOL Trainers offers TESOL Certificate course
The SIT TESOL Certificate course is a highly interactive and experiential journey that helps participants uncover the key principles in teaching and learning language.  The center-piece of this course is the practice teaching component where participants plan, teach, and reflect on lessons they teach to real non-native English speakers.

World Learning's SIT Graduate Institute is one of the most respected universities on the planet for language teacher education programs.  The quality of this TESOL Certificate course and the caliber of the trainers put this course high above other TESOL/TEFL Certificate programs.

Taking any TESOL Certificate course is an investment in time, money, and energy.  You want to make sure you know how to distinguish a good investment from a poor one.  While the SIT TESOL Certificate course has a worldwide reputation as one of the best in the world, there are TESOL Certificate programs (such as those offered through local community colleges) that do not have any recognition outside of their region.  Read this post for more.

What is the SIT TESOL Course like?

There are four key segments to the SIT TESOL Certificate course:  workshops, lesson planning, teaching, and reflecting.
  1. Workshops:  During this time, participants explore aspects of teaching English to non-native speakers in a very hands on manner.
  2. Lesson Planning:  In this segment, participants gain practice in planning effective language lessons using the content of the workshops.
  3. Practice Teaching:  These sessions give each participant 6 hours of observed teaching practice and 30 hours of class observations.
  4. Reflective Sessions:  Teachers improve their understanding of what helps and hinders learning by sharing their thoughts and observations.
Our blog, Everything TESOL, provides much more detail on each of the four components of the SIT TESOL Course.  You can also check out our schedule as well.

Using the Experiential Learning Cycle to guide growth

The Experiential Learning Cycle {ELC} highlights the natural stages of learning we pass through:  Experiencing something, reflecting on the experience, and using what learned to guide the next experience.  This cycle is vital to developing a solid foundation of knowledge and skills; The ELC is found at the heart of the SIT TESOL Certificate course.

As the TESOL course progresses, participants gain the skill to use the ELC to consciously develop as teachers.   This empowering skill provides participants with the tools they need to understand what helps/hinders learning and how to set their students up for success.

For a specific look at how the Experiential Learning Cycle drives the SIT TESOL Certificate course on the macro and micro levels, read this.

No TESOL Certificate course can teach you everything about language learning and language teaching;  Some TESOL/TEFL courses stuff the participants with knowledge;  The SIT TESOL Certificate course fills the participants with real teaching and live learning experiences.
