This is TESOL Trainers' English Learner Institute delivered during the summer session - four days of live, remote, experiential SIOP® training that gives you everything you need to start the new school year ready to reach English Learners and every student in your classroom.
No sub coverage needed. Your teachers aren't missing class time - they're using their professional development days when it's most convenient.
Time to absorb and plan. After four days of training, teachers have the rest of the summer to process what they learned, redesign lessons, and prepare materials before students walk in the door.
Fresh start energy. There's something powerful about going into a new school year with brand-new strategies. Teachers come back in August with confidence and excitement, not the same old playbook.
The Summer SIOP® Institute covers the full SIOP® model - all 8 components and 30 features - through model lessons, collaborative activities, and hands-on practice:
Day 1: Experience SIOP® as a learner through a model lesson. Unpack Lesson Preparation, Comprehensible Input and what makes content accessible.
Day 2: Language ownership - the difference between students who rent language and students who own it. Building Background academic vocabulary and the four language domains.
Day 3: Strategies, Interaction and student engagement keeping students actively learning 90-100% of the time.
Day 4: Practice and Application Lesson Delivery, and Review and Assessment. Putting it all together and planning for your own classroom.

Q: When is the Summer SIOP® Institute?
The next summer session is June 8-11, 2026. It runs 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM Eastern each day, live on Zoom.
Q: Can I take just one or two days instead of all four?
Yes. Each day can be taken individually ($250/day) or as a two-day session ($450). The full four-day institute is $850, which saves $150 vs. individual days.
Q: Is summer SIOP® training the same as the English Learner Institute?
Yes. The Summer SIOP® Institute is the English Learner Institute delivered during the summer session. Same content, same trainer (Dr. John Kongsvik), same experiential approach.
Q: Do teachers receive a certificate?
Yes. All participants receive a certificate of completion with 24 contact hours for professional development credit.
